Backyard Birding

January 10 from 10-11 a.m.

Binoculars? Check!  Note pad? Check!  Field guide? Check!  That’s all you need when you come to Connecticut Audubon Society’s Center at Fairfield to learn about watching and feeding winter birds—a great family activity that you can take home and share in your own backyard.

Winter is a perfect time for viewing and identifying birds when trees have shed their leaves and it’s easier to detect and hear the birds who stay local for the season. Backyard birding begins at the feeder so you’ll learn who is at the feeder at this time of year, their feeding habits, and their characteristics. You’ll also receive tips for attracting birds to your feeder, what birdseed to use, and where to place feeders.

The program is for adults and children ages 12 and up. Meet in the Connecticut Audubon Society’s Center at Fairfield’s Nature Store. Weather permitting, there will be a walk in the sanctuary.  Identification books are also available in the Nature Store. This program is free but donations are appreciated. Register in advance by calling 203-259-6305 ext. 109.
