When most of us are heading to bed, many owl species are just starting their day. These incredible birds have unique adaptations for hunting at night, and are loved and admired by birders and non-birders alike. Late winter is one of the best times to see and hear these birds, as they start defending territory and finding mates. Join CT Audubon Society’s Joe Attwater as we search the Connecticut College Arboretum for these mysterious birds.

Do the parks and overgrown lots in Connecticut's poorer urban neighborhoods have fewer birds or does it just seem that way because fewer birders visit those places? The question has important implications not just for birds but for neighborhood residents as well.
Join us via Zoom on Thursday, February 15, 2024, 7-8 p.m. for a presentation on the topic by Diego Ellis Soto, a Ph.D. candidate in ecology and evolutionary biology at Yale.
Diego calls his presentation: "Biodiversity data is shaped by socioeconomics in the Age of Digital Information: Are there less birds or is there less bird data?"

When it’s cold and snowing outside it can seem as if nature is standing still, waiting for warmer weather. But take a walk outside and you’ll see that life abounds and that plants and animals have amazing adaptations to surviving winter here in Connecticut. We’ll search for the state’s winter inhabitants and learn about what plants and animals do when the temperature drops, and the ground is covered in snow.
