Connecticut Audubon Society Birdcraft Museum is Now Fully Accessible
Fairfield, Conn. - Connecticut Audubon Society announced today that the completion of a ramp linking the Visitor Center to the Museum at Birdcraft makes all of its facilities in Fairfield now fully accessible to people using wheelchairs, mothers with strollers and others with special needs.
Connecticut Audubon Society’s Birdcraft Museum has been engaged in ADA improvements for several years with the help of funding from many committed private donors and a grant from the Wheels in the Woods Foundation. Birdcraft Museum is the birthplace of Connecticut Audubon Society - the oldest privately owned bird sanctuary in the country and is on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition, Fairfield Center became fully accessible with the renovation of its bathroom facilities in 2003, thanks in part to a Fairfield Community Development Block Grant with the remaining funding coming from its Tile Fund for Capital Improvements.
Both Centers have accessible trails with a quarter mile loop at Birdcraft and a one-mile loop at the Fairfield Center. Birdcraft Museum is located at 314 Unquowa Road, Fairfield, convenient to the train station and downtown, phone (203) 259-0416. The Fairfield Center is located at 2325 Burr Street, Fairfield, phone (203) 259-6305.
