Explore Charles Island With Us on Wednesday: Our Only Visit There This Year

Charles Island, off the coast of Milford, in Long Island Sound

Charles Island, off the coast of Milford, in Long Island Sound

Time is running out to register for our only visit of the year to Charles Island in Milford. Frank Gallo, director of our Milford Point Coastal Center, will lead the walk, from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16.

Advance registration only. Call 203 878-7440.

Legend has it that Captain Kidd buried treasure on Charles Island. While no one has found it yet, you’ll discover the natural history and folklore that make Charles Island the “treasure” of Milford.

There are often herons, egrets, ducks, and other waterbirds to see. Wear comfortable sneakers or boots that can get wet, as we hike the three-quatrer-mile tombolo to the island (low tie is 4 p.m.). Water, a snack, hat, and sunscreen are recommended.

Please call for directions, and register early for this popular program! We meet at the beach end of the main boardwalk at Silver Sands State Park.

Fee: members – $12 per adult, $6 per child. Non-members – $16 per adult, $10 per child. Seniors – $7. Click here to become a member of Connecticut Audubon Society.
