Avian Monitor for the H. Smith Richardson Wildlife Preserve
Job opportunity: The Connecticut Audubon Society invites applicants for an eight-month position at 30 hours per week as Avian Monitor for the H. Smith Richardson Wildlife Preserve in Westport, CT beginning March 15, 2018.
Founded in 1898, the Connecticut Audubon Society operates nature facilities in Fairfield, Milford, Glastonbury, Pomfret, Hampton, and Sherman, a center in Old Lyme, and an EcoTravel office in Essex.
Connecticut Audubon manages 19 wildlife sanctuaries encompassing almost 3,300 acres of open space in Connecticut, and educates over 200,000 children and adults annually. Connecticut Audubon is an independent organization, not affiliated with any national or governmental group.
The successful candidate is responsible for monitoring bird populations on the 76-acre preserve as well as assisting in planning of habitat restoration efforts on the property.
Duties include the daily census and recording of all bird species and numbers as well as working with the project manager in planning habitat restoration strategies and other duties as needed.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience and a high proficiency in bird identification by sight and call. A familiarity with eBird and data recording is also required.
This position will report to the senior director of science and conservation.
