Alison Davis: Preserving the Legacy of Edwin Way Teale

Alison Davis is one of a handful of people dedicated toAlison Davis: Preserving The Legacy Of Edwin Way Teale preserving the life and legacy of naturalists Edwin Way Teale and his wife, Nellie.

The Teales moved to Hampton, Connecticut after Edwin had established his reputation as a keen observer of nature and a writer of consummate skill. He was 60. Nellie was 58.

Davis and her husband, Wendell, helped them find the Hampton farm they eventually purchased in 1959. The two couples became family.

Those bonds strengthened with each passing year. Edwin died in 1980; Nellie in 1993. But the naturalists continue to live large in Davis’ memories as two people committed to the appreciation and protection of nature.  Read the rest of Denise Coffey’s article in the Hartford Courant.
