Birding 101 SOLD OUT

10 -11:30 a.m.

Join us for this in-person adult learning series to learn more about the birds around us. These small group classes will have an inside information portion followed by a short outdoor walk, weather permitting. Sign up for all five classes or for individual classes. 

Series fee: Members $65, Non-members $115
Individual program fee: Members $15, Non-members $25

February 17: What Makes a Bird a Bird?  
Discover the characteristics that make birds unique and different. 

February 24: Backyard Birds – Winter Edition    
Learn the field marks that help you identify birds most likely to be in your yard as well as fun facts about each one.

March 3: Feeding Birds in Winter and Beyond    
Discover which birds are at our feeders and yours during different seasons, what they like to eat, their unique behaviors and what you can do to reduce unwanted animals at your feeders.

March 10: Woodpeckers of Connecticut    
Explore the woodpecker’s role in our back yard ecosystem, how to identify the species found in Connecticut and tips on dealing with nuisance woodpeckers.

March 17: Nesting Boxes for Birds    
Learn how to select suitable nesting boxes for a variety of species, attract birds, and discourage predators.  Nest Box kits will be available for purchase the day of the program. These nest boxes are suitable for bluebirds and similar sized birds. Kit includes pre-cut wood for one nesting box, pre-drilled holes and screws for assembly.  Kit does not include mounting hardware. Supplies are limited. Nest Box Kits–$15 per kit available for purchase the day of the program. Supplies limited.

 

Dress for the weather, warm coat, hat, gloves, sturdy shoes. Binoculars are suggested, but can be provided by Connecticut Audubon if needed. For any questions, please email ckratzman@ctaudubon.org

Waivers will also be available the day of the program.

While outdoors, expect to practice social distancing; mask wearing will be optional (but subject to change). Masks and social distancing will be required while in the building.

All sessions will be held at the Coastal Center at Milford Point, 1 Milford Point Road, Milford, CT.
