Membership & Annual Appeal Manager – full time

REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

  1. BASIC FUNCTION AND PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Membership & Annual Appeal Manager is responsible for growing the membership base, renewing and upgrading member support, and strengthening relationships with current members below the major donor level. They are accountable for meeting annual appeal donation goals for donors who contribute less than $1,000 annually, in conjunction with the Director of Development. 

The Manager develops and implements strategy for direct mail and electronic fundraising, member level communications and cultivation efforts, including events and member benefits.

Further responsible for setting standards and providing content for the member services function, including tiered gift acknowledgments, member benefit mailings, and telephone communications. 

  1. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:
    1. Manages Membership and Annual Appeal programs and budgets.
    2. Working with the Director of Development and direct mail consultants, oversees the strategy development, design and implementation of all direct mail solicitations to increase the number of donors and prospects, including split appeal testing.
    3. Manages the on-line giving program to increase annual participation under the direction of the Director of Development.
    4. Develops and executes initiatives to increase membership and engaging existing members.
    5. Manages and continues to improve the Member Portal.
    6. Manages a detailed schedule of direct mail marketing activities and ensures the appropriate review of copy and mailing list selection.
    7. Manages vendors and consultants who implement the program, including strategic input, copywriting, design, production and mailing, and list selection.
    8. Overseeing the Membership Associate to ensure alignment between annual appeal/membership program goals and member services provision.
    9. Develops talking points for member services communications for use by Connecticut Audubon staff and board members.
    10. Writes copy of individual gift acknowledgment letters for use by development staff.
    11. Plans and implements two to three membership receptions/events annually.
    12. Manages the Frequent Flyers (sustainer) program creating and implementing opportunities for annual participation in conjunction with Data Manager.

 

  • SUPERVISORY REPSONSIBILITIES:
    1. Manages Membership Associate. Oversees accurate data entry processes.
    2. Manages consultants and vendors for direct mail campaigns.

 

  1. QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
    2. Minimum of two years experience successfully coordinating non-profit membership programs.
    3. Proven track record of engaging and motivating members
    4. Outstanding analytical, creative and strategic thinking skills
    5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, exceptional interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills, attention to detail
    6. Excellent user of office technology and information systems (including Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint), Constant Contact, and donor databases, preferably Raiser’s Edge NXT. Canva, Publisher, Illustrator, Word Press experience preferred.
    7. Demonstrated ability to lead, collaborate, build consensus
    8. Self-directed with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
    9. A strong commitment to the mission of The Connecticut Audubon Society

 

  1. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:
    1. Regularly sits at a desk or computer workstation
    2. Frequently moves about the office to collaborate with colleagues
    3. Occasionally lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 30 pounds
    4. Some weekend and evening responsibilities
    5. Occasional travel, predominantly within Connecticut
    6. Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
    7. Occasionally required to hike through sanctuary land while working off-site including walking on uneven ground, climbing over obstacles, and accessing remote locations

Salary: $50,000 – $52,000
