Help Save the Connecticut CEQ from Elimination

The Connecticut Council on Environmental Quality is being eliminated in the state budget.

It’s worth saving. Your help will make the difference!

CEQ is the state’s independent environmental watch-dog agency. The public relies on it to:

  • investigate violations of environmental laws.
  • tell us if the state’s environmental laws, policies and programs are working.
  • monitor environmental progress through its annual reports, which are essential tracking documents.

The cost is tiny: $174,000 a year! That’s less than 0.001% of the total State budget.

But cutting it weakens environmental protections immensely.

Please contact your State Senator and State Representative and let them know that the Council of Environmental Quality is too important to cut!

The leader in this effort has been Amy Patterson, executive director of the Connecticut Land Conservation Council. She penned an op-ed for the Hartford Courant earlier this month. It makes the case for keeping the CEQ.

Here is the key paragraph:

“The elimination of this critical agency will not result in any meaningful benefit to the state’s budget or general operation. Instead, the public will pay the price of being less informed and may have no way, other than going to court, to resolve local environmental problems.”

But don’t take Amy’s word for it, or ours. Visit the CEQ website to see for yourself.

Then get in touch with your elected officials today! All of Connecticut will benefit.

Thank you!
