2012 Artist of the Year

David Allen Sibley

Each year, the Connecticut Audubon Society’s Center at Fairfield honors those who are known for their outstanding artwork depicting birds in their natural habitats.  “We are so thrilled to have David Allen Sibley as our Artist of the Year,” said Judy Richardson Fairfield Regional Board of Governors.   As an important part of our Birds In Their Habitat art exhibit and sale, we have begun to showcase artists who are outstanding in their ability to depict birds in their habitats. Their art is a source of inspiration to us all. David is unique, not only for his splendid bird art; but also because he started birding as a youngster with his father, Fred Sibley. Fred was, for many years, the curator of the bird collection at Yale Peabody Museum and a long-time friend of mine and of  The Connecticut Audubon Society.  Both our first experiences with birds were with our Dads, starting a love affair for me for which I am forever thankful,” she added.

David Allen Sibley  is an internationally recognized award-winning author and illustrator of nine books, most notably “The Sibley Guide to Birds” considered by many to be the most comprehensive guide for North American field identification. He is recognized as America’s leading ornithologist/illustrator and the preeminent brand in American Birding.

On Saturday, September 29 from 11:00 until noon, he will be speaking on “The Art of Identification”.  Read more >>>
