Martin Torresquintero, New Haven, CT

As a nature photographer Martín has explored many remote environments, primarily in South America, with renowned environmental photographer Andres Hurtado Garcia, his mentor. As a professional AMGA guide (American Mountain Guides Association), he has organized and guided high altitude photography trips with Kurt Diemberger, a legendary mountain photographer, and has shot alongside him.  Along with Jan Post (Senior Ecologist and Underwater Photographer for the World Bank), Martín has done some top-side and underwater photography in the Western Indian Ocean (Tanzania and Mozambique).

In Connecticut, Martín has been the Outdoor Adventure Coordinator for the City of New Haven since 1999, where he has been in charge of the New Haven Parks Ranger Program and Environmental Education Program.  In conjunction with these programs, he has photographed many of the outdoor activities he teaches or helps organize: birdwatching, bicycle rides and races, paddling excursions, adventure races and adaptive sports. As Adjunct Faculty at Southern CT State University, he teaches courses in Environmental Education and Outdoor Leadership.  Also at SCSU, he has served as co-instructor for environmental filmmaking and photography courses. 

He was the founding guide of an adventure travel and nature photography business, with many trips to Africa, Asia, Europe, Central and South America.  He has led multiple photography trips to the Galapagos Islands and the tropical rainforests of Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Peru, Venezuela, and Brazil.

Martin has an M.S. in Science and Environmental Education, serves as Adjunct faculty at SCSU in Recreation & Environmental Education, is a Disaster Readiness lecturer (FEMA & American Red Cross), belongs to the American Mountain Guides Association, and is a professional member of the National Press Photographers Association. He has a wide array of other certifications:Cave/Rescue/Technical Scuba Diver, Wilderness First Responder, ACA Certified SUP. Canoe, Kayaking and Swift Water Rescue and Safety Instructor, Certified SPI Guide, CWI Certified US Archery Instructor, Adaptive Sports Instructor, and Certified League of American Bicyclists LCI Instructor. He also is multilingual and has multicultural knowledge of business and social customs.

Anna Gault Galjan, South Glastonbury

Anna is a former Connecticut Audubon Society Grants Manager, who has had wins totaling $20 billion over 2,000 grant proposals during her 22 year career. She is versed in all aspects of managing federal, state, commercial, and non‐profit proposal responses. While at Connecticut Audubon she was responsible for the prospecting, coordination, management, authorship, estimating, and review of all grant proposals. Her efforts brought the organization from four grant requests per year to fifty requests per year with an 80% win rate.

She owns her own business, AGG Consulting, LLC.  Previous positions included Director of Sales and Proposals, Cabrera Services, Inc., Proposal/Capture Manager, Buchanan & Edwards, Inc. and Proposal Manager, Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), now LEIDOS.  She is a member of the Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP) and is an author for their Professional Journal.

She holds a B.Sc. from Carleton University.

Gilles Carter, New Haven

After a 14 year stint as an agricultural entrepreneur, farmer, food distributor, importer, and manufacturer of over 20 different private label food brands in the jam and fruit spread industry for clients such as Bread and Circus, Neiman Marcus, and the very first Whole Foods branded product, Gilles sold his business in 1996 and began a second career writing and producing fundraising video pieces for nonprofits.

For the last 19 years, beginning with the 4-part series, The Rise and Fall of Jim Crow (NEH-PBS, 2001) he has been working closely with writer/producers Richard Wormser and Bill Jersey to develop educational-historical documentaries for television. They have co-written over sixty successful corporate, non-profit, state-level, and National Endowment for the Humanities proposals for many projects to bring these programs to fruition.

Gilles has a BA in philosophy from Princeton University. He studied French at the University of Montreal and is bilingual. He is a passionate outdoorsman and sailor who has traveled extensively throughout the American West, Canada, and Europe with his three children, as well as expeditions to Asia, Central, and South America. He’s been photographing and filming birds –both as a hobby and professionally for the last three years.  The Carter-Belknap family has been deeply interested and involved with conservation issues in Connecticut for several generations including the formation of the Belknap Preserve in Wilton and the Honey Hill Preserve in Weston, with the Aspetuck Land Trust.

Thomas Conroy, Guilford

Tom recently retired from 24 years as deputy director of Public Affairs at Yale University where he managed day-to-day operations of the Office of Public Affairs and Communications. He served as primary spokesperson for the university on institutional and other matters with media around the world, coordinated the university’s media relations and devised communication strategies on various issues and utilized multiple communication platforms. He wrote university announcements and statements and consulted regularly with leadership throughout the university on communication matters, including crisis management.

Prior to his work at Yale he served in several capacities as press officer to the Governor of New York rising to the position of deputy press secretary and acting as chief writer and editor for the Governor of New York’s Press Office where he supervised a staff of press officers and support personnel, coordinated presentation of budgetary, policy, and other announcements to state and national media and acted as liaison between Governor’s Press Office and press offices of all state agencies. Before that he was the UPI Capitol Bureau Chief and managed coverage of New York State government and politics. He wrote news articles and commentary for UPI’s subscribing newspapers and television and radio stations and assigned reporters to cover the three branches of government and related political activities.

He has served on the board of the Guilford Land Conservation Trust, including as Secretary, and produced the trust’s newsletter. He also was a Piping Plover/Shorebird Monitor at Bluff Point for the Audubon Alliance for Coastal Waterbirds.

Tom has a B.A. in American Studies from Fordham University.
