Spring Bird Walk at the Arboretum

Spring Bird Walk at the Arboretum

April 13, 2024

Birds in Connecticut eagerly await the coming of spring, as we put away our winter gear and welcome back the birds we haven’t seen since the fall. Trees and bushes are full of songbirds in the morning, many of which have just traveled hundreds or thousands of miles to get back to their breeding grounds. We’ll look for warblers, thrushes, flycatchers, and more in the forests and wetlands of the Connecticut College Arboretum, an important stopover site for a diversity of bird species.

Vernal Pool Walk at Deer Pond Farm

Vernal Pool Walk at Deer Pond Farm

April 13, 2024

No fee
What a great way to celebrate the season of Spring by spending some time at Deer Pond Farm learning about vernal pools! Dutchess Land Conservancy Director of Education, Julie Hart, will be partnering with us to lead this guided hike. We’ll start off at one of the nearby ponds for an overview of how vernal pools are different than other waterways. Then we’ll head to one of many vernal pools to look, listen and learn about the amphibians and other wildlife that rely on them, and talk about how we can help to protect and conserve these special habitats.
