Bird Walk at the RTPEC

September 20, 2022 9:00 am - 10:00 am The Roger Tory Peterson Estuary Center
The Roger Tory Peterson Estuary Center
Old Lyme, CT 06371

Follow the progress of bird migration at our new sanctuary in Old Lyme this fall, and help us collect valuable bird data in the process. Because the RTP Estuary Center is a new sanctuary, you’ll be helping establish a baseline record of the birds that migrate through.

Throughout the fall and early winter, birds of prey are on the move! Hawks, eagles, vultures, and falcons will be flying south, moving to their wintering grounds. Deer Pond Farm’s high vantage point of 1,200 feet elevation is a great place to observe and learn about these birds. Stop in anytime between 1 - 4 PM to join Habitat Steward Stefan Martin on the lawn behind the building. We will have spotting scopes set up, binoculars to borrow, and other raptor ID resources to utilize. Bring lawn chairs, binoculars, sun screen, and a spotting scope if you have one! Although we can’t guarantee sightings, there will be plenty to learn about and see during the program.

Register here.

No fee.

He’ll explain how plants and animals are preparing for the cooler weather. Every species has an adaptation or two that allow them to survive the winter, and for many it begins with preparation in the autumn. Join us as we learn about the various seasonal changes happening throughout Deer Pond Farm.
