Follow the progress of bird migration at our new sanctuary in Old Lyme this fall, and help us collect valuable bird data in the process. Because the RTP Estuary Center is a new sanctuary, you’ll be helping establish a baseline record of the birds that migrate through.

Learn about Pulitzer Prize-winning naturalist author and photographer Edwin Way Teale. Walk includes a tour of his study as preserved from 1980, the writing cabin where he worked in milder months, the “branch office” and more. Meet in the parking lot at Trail Wood. Easy walk with some inclines. Free – donations welcome.

Make a splash! Learn how to collect and identify stream invertebrates and use your findings to determine stream and water health. Share your findings on the Creek Critter phone app, where they are added to a map of water body pollution levels. Learn how you and your family can contribute to conservation research, while having hands-on outdoor fun and meet like-minded citizen scientists! Dress to get wet and wear water-tolerant footwear. Suitable for ages 5 and up.
