Nature Nursery

For children ages 2-3 years accompanied by an actively participating adult

Join us for outdoor fun and adventure as spring unfolds in the Larsen Sanctuary. We’ll listen for frogs calling, view turtles sunning and watch birds journey back from their winter travels. Please wear weather-appropriate clothing.

Cost for 10-week series: $108 for CAS Members; $144 for non-members.       Individual class fee: $12/class for CAS members; $16/class for non-members.  Preprgistration required.  Call 203-259-6305 ext. 109.

Crafts, songs, games and nature exploration. What better way for your child to spend a spring afternoon! 8 week series fee: $160/child for members; $224/child for non-members. (Child must be toileted trained and able to attend without an adult).

Thursday Morning Bird Walk

Join Milan Bull, Senior Director of Science and Conservation for an early morning bird walk. This walk and talk is an ideal opportunity to see an   excellent variety of birds along the trails. All levels of birders are welcome. Free.

Spring Walk

10:30 - Noon

Hike the trails with our naturalist and discover what spring has to offer in the Sanctuary: skunk cabbage, peepers calling, migrating birds.   All ages but no strollers please. Bring binoculars if you have them!   Donation suggested.

Owl Tales

Owls fly, hoot, eat and they leave behind all sorts of tracks and traces, like owl pellets! Find out what a pellet is, meet our non-releasable owls up close and head to the woods looking for signs of owls. $5/person. Pollinator Garden Open House

POLLINATOR PALOOZA and GARDEN OPEN HOUSE

Bugs and birds need your help!  Come learn about the decline of our pollinators (bees, butterflies, bats, and birds) and what you can do to make a difference!  This family friendly event has something for everyone:  kid crafts, free pollinator seed packets, free pollinator posters and more.

Join us to learn how your own yards can be improved for birds, pollinators and other wildlife.  Native plantings are a cost effective way to make your yard enjoyable and easy to care for.

Animal Experts will have displays and talk about the biology and habitat needs of pollinators.

National Trail Day

National Trail Days

Saturday, June 4

10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

 

Choose from one of two guided 1-hour hikes: 10:00 am or 1:00 pm. The leisurely 1.5 mile journey will pass through the Larsen Sanctuary where we’ll discover a temperate deciduous forest, ponds,   garden marsh, meadow and swamp, while observing   several bird habitats and   ecological points of interest and discussing efforts to   protect them. The varied   terrain will be of easy to moderate difficulty. Wear sturdy footwear. Visit the Nature Store, where we will offer 20% off field guides and walking sticks. Free.
