“The Glass Wall: Making Connecticut’s Buildings Safer for Birds” — a Young, Gifted & Wild About Birds presentation, Thursday, January 18

January 13, 2024 — Young, Gifted & Wild About Birds 2024 starts Thursday at 7 p.m. with a Zoom presentation by Viveca Morris and Meredith Barges about how to make buildings safer for birds.

We’ve titled their presentation, “The Glass Wall: Making Connecticut’s Buildings Safer for Birds.” If you’re interested in birds and conservation, you won’t want to miss it.

Each year, 1 billion birds die in North America when they fly into buildings and other structures. It’s one of the important reasons why bird populations in North America have fallen by 30 percent over the last 50 years.

New Haven and Yale in particular had a number of especially bad locations, but Morris (top photo) and Barges (bottom photo) organized a program that resulted in important improvements.

It’s a topic we covered in last month’s Connecticut State of the Birds report, and making buildings safer for birds is one of the report’s key recommendations as well.

So join us Thursday, January 18, 7 to 8 p.m.

It’s an interesting topic, and highly relevant to our work. You can buy tickets just for Thursday or subscribe to the Young, Gifted and Wild About Birds series and get all 5 presentations for the price of 4.
