Gas powered leaf blowers are well documented as harmful and polluting. These blowers pollute our local neighborhoods, backyards, schools and towns with large amounts of fossil fuel-derived particulate matter, associated with risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease and forms of dementia. The Environmental Protection Agency has shown that leaf blowers and other gas-powered lawn and garden equipment expose workers and the public to high levels of toxic and carcinogenic emissions such as benzene, butadiene, formaldehyde and fine particulates. The equipment is also a leading cause of noise pollution, affecting mental health, hearing, and birds.
