An Illuminating Look at Fireflies
June 16, 2025
While the singing of katydids announces the end of summer, the blinking of fireflies signals its arrival. One of the most pleasant associations with summer is going outside on a warm evening and watching fireflies. Many of us have childhood memories of playing in our backyards, chasing fireflies, catching them in a glass jar to watch them flash, and then releasing them. But why do fireflies flash? What are they ‘saying?’
The University of Connecticut’s Dr. Andrew Moiseff will answer these questions and more when he shares an illuminating look at fireflies on Wednesday, June 25, at 7:00 p.m. at The Connecticut Audubon Society Center at Pomfret, 218 Day Road. Admission is $5.00 for CAS members and $10.00 for non-members. While program registration is requested (call 860-928-4948), it is not required. Read more.
