    An Illuminating Look at Fireflies

    June 25, 2025

One of the most pleasant associations with summer is going outside on warm evenings and watching fireflies. And, of course, children catching fireflies and putting them in jars to watch them flash. But why do fireflies flash? What are they 'saying?' UConn’s Dr. Andrew Moiseff will present an illuminating look at fireflies, covering their biology and life cycle, the behavioral role of flashing, how they generate their flashes, and a couple of their unique behaviors. After his talk, walk outside with Dr. Moiseff, watch the fireflies, and enjoy a June evening at Bafflin Sanctuary. Registration requested but not required. Call 860-928-4948. Fee: $5 CAS members; $10 non-members.
