Are you interested in expanding your knowledge of the habitats, plants, animals and natural history of Connecticut? Would you like to experience the rewards of sharing that knowledge and teaching others about the stewardship of Connecticut’s natural resources? If so, our Master Naturalist Woodland Program may be for you!
Participants will learn skills to help identify common plants and animals. Topics include introductory botany, geology, entomology (insects) amphibians, reptiles, ornithology, mammals, marine ecosystems, interpretive guide techniques and the history of the Connecticut Audubon Society.
The Master Naturalist Woodland Program at the Center at Fairfield provides 40 hours of classroom and field training in four-hour sessions over 10 weeks (see our graduates from 2017 here). Training programs prepare adults of all experience levels to become naturalists in their communities and to contribute to environmental education and conservation efforts through volunteer service.
Classes are taught by field experts. The cost is $250 for members and $305 for non-members (includes membership; to become a member, click here). As part of the tuition, participants must be able to contribute 10 hours of volunteer service within the year following the training. To complete the program, please expect to attend every class. Application deadline is August 1. To download the Application Form click here. To view our flyer, click here.
For more information call 203-259-6305 ext. 109 or email cnoyes@ctaudubon.org.
Most of the classes will be held at Center at Fairfield, 2325 Burr Street.
