Ruby-throated Hummingbird

April 14, 2016 – You can improve the odds of seeing a Ruby-throated Hummingbird in your backyard by protecting and restoring their habitat. Plant native hummingbird flowers, flowering shrubs, and trees. Then when you put up your hummingbird feeder your chances of seeing these flying jewels are greatly increased.

October 2, 2015 – Ruby-throated Hummingbird. Time is running out to see this tiny garden gem this year. They return to their wintering grounds, mostly in Central America, around the end of September.

Rufous Hummingbird

August 15, 2014. Rufous Hummingbird. Measuring in at 3-3/4 inches, this short winged, compact hummingbird could, depending on the plumage, be passed over as our more common Ruby-throated Hummingbird (photo on left is Rufous; photo in center is Ruby-throated).
