Programs for Home Learners

Join us for an unplugged morning of outdoor explorations for your home learning students. 

Map Making (Cartography) for ages 9-11
Tuesday, November 3
9:30 -11 a.m.

Be an explorer or a pirate! Want to know how to get to your destination or find the treasure? Maps are the answer! Before there was GPS, paper maps ruled, and the cartographers that made them!  Join teacher-naturalist Jenn Silberger to discover the many different types of maps and learn how to read them. Walk the Coastal Center trails to observe your surroundings and then make a map of your own. ** Supplies for making the maps will be provided, if you prefer to bring your own supplies, a list is provided below.

Participants are required to wear masks and practice physical distancing. The program is 100% outdoors. Please wear appropriate outdoor gear, sturdy, closed-toe footwear, and bring water, apply sunblock and bug spray before arriving. Note: Center building and facilities (including restrooms) are closed, however, there is a portable toilet available (please bring hand sanitizer.

Group is limited to eight participants. This is a drop-off program.
Members $20, Non-members $25. Pre-registration required.
This program may be cancelled or postponed due to adverse weather.
A waiver must be completed and returned before the program date.
This program is at the Coastal Center, 1 Milford Point Road, Milford, CT.

**Supplies for making the maps will be provided, if you prefer to bring your own supplies, a list is provided.

Supply list
8×10 sheet of paper or larger (supply a few in case of mistakes)
Box of colored pencils or crayons
Clip board or hard surface to write on
