The Roger Tory Peterson Estuary Center

Most of North America's shorebird species breed in the high arctic, and stay on the breeding grounds for only a brief period. Late summer means many of those species are making their southbound migration to their wintering grounds. Join us as we look for many of our shorebird species at some of the best spots around southeastern Connecticut, and learn how you can help these charismatic birds.

Shorebirds Webinar

The Roger Tory Peterson Estuary Center
Old Lyme, CT 06371

Shorebirds are some of the champions of the bird world when it comes to migration. Most of the species that can be seen in CT breed in far north in the arctic, spending very little time on their breeding grounds before heading south again to their wintering grounds. In this webinar Conservation and Education Coordinator Joe Attwater will go over this incredible group of birds and which ones you can expect to see in CT.

Many shorebird species begin their southbound journeys to their wintering grounds in late summer, long before many songbird species are on the move. Among them are many juveniles and birds in non-breeding plumage, making identification a chore. We’ll go over what to look for in these late summer migrants, and the incredible journeys these birds make every year, all at one of the best stopover sites in southeastern Connecticut.
