Saturday, March 19; 9-11:30am at Mt. Pisgah, Durham

Journey up the river to the southwesterly-most headwaters of the Connecticut River to the Pitch Pine and Bear Oak-clad summit of Mt. Pisgah. At 644 feet, this rocky summit offers views of Durham Meadows and the Metacomet Ridge to the west and the Hartford skyline to the north. Various species of soaring hawks, vultures and Common Ravens can be spotted. Moderately rugged hike on the New England Trail through Chalker Brook ravine.

This unique course sheds light on some of our most mysterious, secretive and fascinating wildlife – the amphibians! After learning about the characteristics and habitats of Connecticut’s 23 species of salamanders, newts, frogs and toads, conservation biologist Jim Arrigoni will highlight interesting and unusual aspects of their ecology and how this information can be put to good use!

March 22- Week 1 will cover the 12 species of salamanders found in Connecticut. Jim will discuss identification characteristics and habitats as well as unique behavioral adaptations.
